Hypnosis is a very old healing modality, a safe, gentle, and effective way to heal, reduce stress, relieve pain, and effect changes in one’s life. Hypnosis is merely a state of relaxed focus. It is a natural state. Each of us go into such a state – also known as a trance state. Everyone enters this state no less than twice a day. When we are falling asleep and when we are waking up. That sort of blurry, timeless state between dreaming and consciousness is a trance state. Hypnosis is a state of mind similar to experiencing a pleasant daydream.
There are many other times that people enter a natural state of trance. Driving, watching TV, listening to music, working on a favorite hobby or activity in the “flow” state. These are all “altered states of consciousness,” and all are various levels of trance. Trance is normal, natural and common.
People who are hypnotized go into a sleeplike state in which they become very suggestible. When in this state, they can perform, see, and think in ways that would usually seem impossible.
The Collins English Dictionary defines hypnosis as: ‘an artificially induced state of relaxation and concentration in which deeper parts of the mind become more accessible.’
